Spinous - Arcosine - Hands of Steel

Spinous - Arcosine - Hands of Steel

"Hands of Steel" is a dark electronic piece I made some years ago from my Arcosine project.
The main idea is to create a musical work where a musical object, in this case the piano is out of sync with the rest of the music, having its own tempo.

Spinous - Neptilos - Oriental Voyage

Spinous - Neptilos - Oriental Voyage

Oriental Voyage is another exotic composition where I explore complex rhythms and oriental sounds.
Some of the bars this piece goes though are 27/8, 10/4 or 15/4. I also explore polyrhythms where the background musical section is at 4/4 but the main melody is on another bar
Have fun !

Spinous - Arcosine - Adagio For Trance

Spinous - Arcosine - Adagio For Trance

Adagio For Trance is the combination of classical music with electronic dance music.

My main idea was to create an adagio based on the works of Barber and Albinoni and mixed it with trance music but with a lower tempo to maintain the nostalgic feeling of the classical touch.

This is the final result !

Spinous - Adore - It's Stronger Than You

Spinous - Adore - It's Stronger Than You

"It's Stronger Than You" is a beatiful and powerful rock ballad. This song was later on re-record by the band The Urban Tales with the participation of singer Melo D and myself as well.

This is the original version started as something as simple as playing around a sonar sound.

Spinous - Make A Party

Spinous - Make A Party

"Make A Party" is a pop song strongly influenced by funk music. This is one of the few songs I have created that I really like.
The structure of the song is fairly simple, verses - prechorus - chorus,
Yet there is something magical on this song... first the guitar and bass riffs are really groovy and memorable.
The vocal melodic lines are deep and strong. The chorus has a great hook. The lyrics also have some inspiring moments such as
"I travelled a thousand miles in my brain
But still things look just, just the same
I gotta find a way to be happy"
This song was released on the first CD from Spinous titled "Searching For You" but there are plans to rearrange this song and re-record it to my side project called MEL with singer Melanie Spencer for our upcoming second CD.

Spinous - Neptilos - Sad Rain (Adagio for strings and oboe)

Spinous - Neptilos - Sad Rain (Adagio for strings and oboe)

NEPTILOS is another side project of mine which involves creating instrumental music, from lounge into soundtrack music with classical and ethnical influences.
For this track I decided to compose an Adagio featuring strings and oboe. I am not really a typical classical composer and although I can read and write music and know music theory, composing classical music is a huge chalenge for me.
First we have a huge heritage of music in this music genre with great minds involved. Everybody knows their names, no need to write names. Pop and Rock have been on this planet only for 50-60 years, classical music has been around for more than 600-700 years.
Classical music is an highly complex subject, involving lots of rules in terms of music composition as well as instrumentation and sound aesthethics, which I don't master at all. Possibly for a professional composer this work is full of "errors" (that would not surprise me lol)
The piece divides itself in basically three parts: the intro with strings only, the middle section with the oboe melody involved and the last section of the music with a main theme repeated.
I really like the combination of the oboe with the cello, it creates a rather moody and melancholic texture. I also decided to create layers of high pitch violins playing at a lower level, which really support the music and at the same time create space for the oboe to shine.
The piece of work was created with a computer, so it is not real players playing... I did try to use MIDI the best way I could in order to give this work an organic and natural feeling.
Unfortunately I lost the project and the score of this piece which is really bad since I wanted in the future to record it with a real ensemble !

Spinous - Angry Talent -Time

Spinous - Angry Talent -Time

Another day, another piece of my work...

"TIME" is another from my side project called ANGRY TALENT.

The instrumentation and lyrics are a bit odd... we have edrums with a double bass, classical guitar, rhodes and more electronic synth arpeggio stuff in the background. On the last chorus I add a strings arrangement. The final result is at least interesting, even if I have mixed feelings about this song (Note: I usually don't like the songs I create).

The lyrics are about how time is an intolerant creature. I consider time as an evil god (that is why I refer to time as HIM). I believe this song has one of the most philosophical lyrics I ever written.

Some of the particular lines of this lyric is:

"Time is afraid, a coward who won't take the blame"

"Time has no shame, no referees to judge the game"

"Time flies way, from him there's no roses in May"

The bridge of the song is utterly beatiful and thoughtful

"Rushing through the winter
My life has gone away
Tears are falling from the skies and no one seems to justify them
Why should we walk that line ? "

My vocals are not very good on this track, they lack a bit of ambience and sometimes are a bit flat. Gosh I sing way much better now lol They should be more present. The music production is also kind of lame. But ok it is acceptable LOL

The harmony of the music has some interesting points which I cannot recall now completely but apart fromt the obvious chromatic movement, I also added different colors to the chords, where you can hear suspended chords sometimes and different non-diatonic chords. Subtle stuff that makes a lot of difference.

More tomorrow !

Don't You Run From Me".

ANGRY TALENT is one of my side projects... one man band torturing himself with vocals, guitars, bass and samples.

This first theme called "Don't You Run From Me". It talks about sick love mainly but also has a political message involved.

The instrumentation is based in a synth line and a small guitar riff. Vocals are acceptable although I rarely like my own voice.

There's two funny points on this song: one is I used a Bush speech on the background as a political satire and criticism (this was Pre-Obama) and secondly I used a small reference from Queen's "Kind of Magic".

More coming tomorrow !

(PS - you can download the music at the Soundcloud page)

New music

For the next two months I will be sharing a song per day of my past work, involving more than 5-10 years of musical creation.

I also will had a full story on how I have created my artistic work, my goals and innovations and my late opinion after the song is completed and now that I can look at it with a more realistic criticism.

The musical genre of the exposed creations is quite vast since I had different musical projects over they years.

Starts on the 15th of July so stay tune !
